What makes Earl’s tail wag?
This is Patrick McDonnell's sixth picture book – and five of those six feature his precious pooch, Earl. In this simple story, the question is posed “What makes Earl's tail wag?”

Emm Gryner is one of the most prolific and inspiring female singer/songwriters of our time. Gryner has toured as a backup singer for the Thin White Duke, David Bowie as well as touring as a member of the Cardigans. Gryner has celebrity fans such as Nelly Furtado and U2's Bono (in Q Magazine Bono recognized her song Almighty Love as one of six songs he wished he had written himself).

That is right… singer/songwriter Rose Cousins is about to release her new record The Send Off. It follows her masterful and beautiful release If You Were For Me from 2006. It's been a little bit of a wait for us hardcore Cousins fans but a wait well worth it.
A little boy who wanted to be tall
For young basketball players who aspire to play like Michael Jordan but are lacking a little in the height department, this story will give them the inspiration they need.
This NBA superstar was not always a 6' 6" giant. In fact, when he was a young boy, Michael was discouraged that he was not tall enough to play with his older brothers at the local basketball court.

Our music and arts scene is as vibrant as ever in the Maritimes. The Imperial Theatre is presenting the Atlantic version of their Voices of Canada series featuring Prince Edward Island’s Nikkie Gallant and Ryan Leblanc from the beautiful seaside town of St. Andrews.
A boy with a brain wired differently
No, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. The co-author of this series is really, truly the one-and-only Henry Winkler (a.k.a. The Fonz). This zany series deals with the ups and downs of life in fourth grade for a student whose brain, as his music teacher reminds me, is wired differently.
A very vintage Christmas
Christmas comes early this year in the form of a Christmas concert at the Vintage Bistro and Lounge on Oct. 28 in support of area food banks. The performance is being recorded and will be released as a live holiday CD with proceeds going to this much-needed cause.
Once a punk, now a country star
I remember when Corb Lund was in a punk band years ago called The Smalls. It seems to be a common thing for young punks to grow up and become ol' style country artists. The same old rebel attitude came from the original punks like Hank Williams et al, making it a traditional outcome as true rebels and outlaws.
Imagine if the Rocket was your older brother
In typical Leonetti fashion, this new book tells the story of an old hockey player. In this case, it is none other than Maurice (The Rocket) Richard.
Set in the 1940s, Andre is an aspiring young hockey player whose older brother, Marcel, is a star in his own right. Andre is tired of being compared to his older brother.
Harmonica virtuoso, blues giant piggyback success
The cover image of the new Matt Andersen album (two big men, one small bike) is priceless. Piggyback, a collaboration between harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens and the Maritimes blues giant Andersen, was recorded at the Cottage Studio in Guelph, Ont., by Scott Merritt who has worked with Fred Eaglesmith and Stephen Fearing, among other roots and folk royalty.

Futuristic adventure story explores survival
For the past six months, my sales representative has been hounding me to read this book. Somehow it never made it to the top of my must-read pile. I am not sure why or how this happened especially now that I have read it. This book is superb. It is a futuristic action-packed adventure story that explores ideas of controlling governments, survival and teen romantic interests.
Mood-maker plays Hampton
I first heard about Erin Costelo from some friends who told me what a wonderful singer/songwriter and performer she is. I trust and value their opinions as they are music lovers always in search of pure art. I went to Costelo's MySpace site to further my curiosity and instantly fell for the music. I sent her an email proclaiming my interest in her music and received a copy of her stylish and soothing new release Fire & Fuss.
School is back and Halloween comes early
I can't believe the summer is over. Well, we did have a couple good weeks of summer-like weather. As we hunker down to our normal school year schedule and sign up the kids for hockey season, we will once again be "working for the weekend" as Loverboy once sang.
