Towns have weekly performers all summer

A7

First off, let me congratulate all of you who have had a successful school year. To quote Alice Cooper, “School's out for summer!” It's time to make your summer music plans. There are a ton of wonderful events happening throughout the valley and the Maritimes this summer along with festivals like Evolve, Harvest Jazz and Blues and Saint John’s own Salty Jam.

Songbird Melanie Doane will perform June 26 at the Blue Olive in Saint John.

Let's not forget all the big rock shows including Bon Jovi, AC/DC and Sir Paul McCartney among others.

Every Wednesday all summer long in the Arts &Culture Park in Quispamsis it’s their summer concert series with a wide array of musical performances including the kick off with Juno award-winning guitar man Garrett Mason on July 8, Canadian Idol finalist Dee in August and pop hit maker Jon Mullane.

Down the road in Rothesay ot the Common on Thursday evenings all summer long you can catch ECMA blues nominee Ross Neilsen, the soulful Jimmy Hadley and the brilliant children's duo Zany Lane. All these performances start at 7 to 8 p.m. For further information on the whole lineup for the summer check www.rothesay.ca and www.quispamsis.ca. You will also find the Canada Day lineups on these sites so that you can plan a fun-filled and patriotic Canada Day with family and friends!

Coming to the Blue Olive June 26 is Juno award-winning and multi instrumentalist songbird Melanie Doane with very special guest Jennifer LFO.

Doane become a star with her release Adam's Rib that went gold and saw her play stages with Jann Arden, Great Big Sea and Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair.

Opening act Jennifer LFO (Foster) who is based in Toronto, but from our area, is a real gem of an artist who will also be doing a headline show a little later in the summer at the Blue Olive. Tickets for this double dose of Melanie and Jennifer are available now by calling 634-3183. Check these ladies out at www.melaniedoane.com and www.jenniferLFO.com.

I will be interviewing Jennifer in anticipation of her show at the Blue Olive so make sure to read about it next week. To quote Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, “School is out and it's sort of a buzz,” so enjoy the summer and the music as it echos through the valley! Salut! The Music man
