From runway to reality

It is possible to add a touch of trend this spring

A3

It seems like every magazine and fashion blog is pressing women to make the most of this year’s spring trends but in rural towns like Quispamsis and Rothesay staying current becomes a challenge.

The most forward of dressers could argue that high fashion works anywhere and that it is, of course, the person under the clothes that decides what can be pulled off where.

Casual trend-followers like me want to incorporate bits and pieces of the runway’s best into a wardrobe in affordable and wearable ways.

An easy item to add to mom-wear or work attire is slouchy pants. This year women are wearing their pants a little looser, and for people who put comfort first, this is a plus. To really take advantage of this trend, be sure to find a pair that taper slightly at the ankle.

Statement necklaces are one of my favourite items this year. An oversized necklace and a pop of colour on your lips is a simple way to dress up any outfit. There is so much choice in how to follow this trend that anyone can jump aboard: necklace sizes range from thick chest-level strands to waist-touching chain-link looks.

Neon is a fun look for spring and summer. The best way to wear any neon colour is by only doing a touch of it. A touch of a vivid turquoise on the eyes with a simple black and white outfit works. Try carrying a neon-coloured clutch purse for a slight pop of colour … or try on some neon ballet flats. In this case, less is more.

Floral prints are in style this year and work best on sundresses. This article of clothing is versatile for women on the go: paired with sandals and a cardigan for running around or playing at the park, or dressed up with wedge heels and some jewelry for the evening.

It can be a struggle to stay trendy without going overboard, but runway looks can become reality by picking elements of style and incorporating them in a practical way.
