• It seems that chic casual dining has come to the Kennebecasis Valley. We hear The Sidedoor Café has opened in Rothesay’s elegant Shadow Lawn Inn and offers a relaxed atmosphere for lunch or dinner. The café seems to be creating a niche for itself with menu items that combine quality food with exciting treats. Included will be items like an asparagus salad, various seafood dishes and crepes.

• It seems that as one (side) door opens, another one closes. We hear Sessions Café, located in the Fairvale Plaza, will close at the end of July. It seems that negotiations with grocery giant Sobeys didn’t go as well as the café owners hoped, because there weren’t enough funds to open a new location. We hear because the café’s lease in the plaza didn’t end until 2011, it was trying to negotiate a deal with Sobeys, which is undergoing renovations. Tenants in the Rothesay plaza have been moving out since last month, after being asked to leave by the plaza’s owner. Sessions Café has remained open for now, but it seems that soon it will close its doors for good.

• We hear yet another new strip mall will be added to the holdings of developer Phil Brodersen. It seems that Brodersen, also the president of the Kennebecasis Valley Chamber of Commerce, will have another strip mall built in Rothesay. One has to wonder what the developer has planned for the mall, especially because we hear there are still empty spaces in some of his existing buildings.

• Stylish moms will be happy to know a new online store has opened in the valley offering fashionable maternity wear for expecting women. The store has clothing and accessories for women, but also for toddlers and small children, we hear. The venture will be welcome in this area, which is a mecca of mommy activity – stylish moms at that.
