Serve mummies and eyeball eggs at your party

Halloween is just around the corner. So if you are planning a party, I have found some quite disgustingly fun recipes. Serve them up with some Vampire blood (tomato juice, perhaps “laced” a little) with a Haunted Forest as an appetizer and your guests may very well be bewitched.
Haunted Forest
On a platter, create the forest floor with spaghetti cooked in green food colouring. Use broccoli stems as trees. Intersperse with mushroom caps. Make round balls from mozzarella cheese and use a half of a black olive to create eyeballs. Make gravestones from slices of cheddar cheese. Use stick pretzels as bones. Create some “quicksand puddles” with your favourite dip.
Mummies
Cook number of hot dogs required. Wrap in crescent roll dough to represent mummies and bake according to package. Create eyes using dabs of ketchup or pieces of olive.
Eyeball Eggs
Hard boil your eggs. Cut egg in half and place on platter flat side down. Cut a slit in the egg white and insert a green olive with red pimento facing out. Use red food colouring to drip “blood” from the eyeball.
Bat Wings
In a medium pot, combine ½ cup grape jelly, ½ cup hoisin sauce, 2 tablespoons soy sauce and 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar. Simmer until jelly is dissolved and the mixture has slightly thickened (5 to 8 minutes). Turn off the heat and stir in 12 drops of black food coloring. Reserve about ¼ cup of this glaze and use the remaining ½ cup to coat 2 to 3 pounds of wings. Arrange the wings on a foil-lined baking sheet and bake at 425 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with the remaining glaze. Return to the oven and cook for another 5 minutes. Arrange on a large platter in the shape of a “big bat.”
There was one more recipe that I could not bring myself to share: Kitty Litter Casserole. Use your imagination and for heaven’s sake, buy a new kitty scoop as your utensil.
Happy Halloween!
