Do you have faith?

Negativity is an attitude you can do something about

Recently I listened to a podcast by Marianne Williamson on having faith. She states that there are no faithless persons. She goes on to say that everyone has faith but what we have faith in, differs. When you think about faith, the first thing that comes to mind for many is religious faith. However, you can have faith in many other aspects of your life.
So, what do you have faith in? Take some time to think about the following questions:

  • Do you have faith that we live in an amazing, abundant universe where there’s enough for everyone? Or do you have faith in lack and scarcity and that there is not enough to go around?
  • Do you have faith that your possibilities are limitless or that you are stuck in a dead-end job?
  • Is your faith in all the wonderful things that are going right in your life or in all the situations that are causing stress?
  • Do you believe in your ability to be a loving, nurturing mother or in all the imperfections you so easily identify in yourself?
  • Do you have faith in miracles or in disaster? Disease or healing? The power of love or the power of resentment? Forgiveness or blame? Recession or recovery?

Marianne states that we are all responsible for the lens in which we view our lives. In other words, our attitude.
So, if we want to change our lives, then we need to change our attitude. Our attitude is our faith so ask yourself the question again…What do you have faith in?
If you have your faith in the negativity of the world, that is what will play out in your life. If you have faith in the goodness, kindness and endless possibilities you have available, then that will be what your life will consist of.
So, go ahead. Have a look around at your life. Your circumstances might just be a good indicator of where your faith has been. And if these circumstances aren’t making you happy, start cultivating faith in the miracles that surround you, give thanks for all that is good in your life (no matter how far you have to dig to find something), perform an act of kindness, send a note of appreciation, go do something fun, hug your kids, tell them you love them and how wonderful they are. Spend some quality time with your partner or call up a friend you may not have seen in a while. Do something that will raise your energy.
Faith in the positive aspects of life will create a more positive life. It’s not rocket science yet we still hold on to those sneaky, seductive, negative thoughts that play havoc with our happiness.
Let’s begin to recognize negativity for what it is. It’s an attitude that only you can do something about and it’s the only thing standing between you and happiness.
So, put a little faith in your ability to start viewing your life through a new pair of lenses… rose-coloured ones.
